On Focus: Cloud Sourcing
Cloud computing is a technology paradigm whereby software and IT infrastructure are delivered as services via the Internet. This network of services is collectively known as “the cloud”. It makes it possible to use a thin client, smartphone or laptop to reach into the cloud for resources as and when they need them, which in turn can lead to a reduced cost per user and greater leverage of resources. Cloud computing has all the attributes and potential to support a global outsourcing environment with lower infrastructure costs, lower energy costs from eliminating hardware boxes, and much better scaleability to provide computing resources to meet demand in an unpredictable global market.

Companies need to ensure that their contracts reflect the outsourcing relationship they want to achieve - it is an unfortunate reality that too many contracts lack sufficient flexibility, are poorly drafted and do not focus the parties on maintaining a close commercial relationship based on shared objectives.
